Q2 Module 2 Progress Report

 This week I worked a full 40 hours. This brings this quarter total to 40 hours as last week we were on spring break. 

Again since I wasn't working spring break, I didn't have any work expected to do and in general has been very slow for me. There is a lot of things that need to be done but most if it is things that I am not allowed to work on or has to be done by the system admin as I don't have access etc... I've mainly just been resetting computers as they come in and restarting the computers that show the security feed for both James Taylor and the high school.

 I did have a side quest to find a 2.5 inch drive as the computer we use for engraving took a dump when we had a power serge and windows got corrupted. The laptop is over 10 years old and originally came with windows 7. As you may know we have a $0 budget so we have to reuse and source parts where we can. My co-worker asked my boss to get a new HDD but he said no we don't have any funds. I then suggested we open one of the surplus desktops that have no ram and take the SDD out of there. My co-worker didn't think it would fit since he assumed it was a 3.5 inch drive but I assured him that if the original drive was upgraded to an SSD like I was told they were back in the day its a 2.5 inch drive as they don't make them in 3.5 inch form factors. 
Sure enough I went down to the warehouse and there was a 256 GB 2.5 inch SSD. (Mostly all our computers are laptops now and use either the M.2 form factor or use Flash EMMC memory- solder on). I took it out and set it on the cart for him to swap out at his own time. We will also use a SATA to USB adaptor and Linux to try and pull some of the templets off the old drive as we don't have those backed up anywhere. 

Besides small things not much is happening. In may we have state testing coming up and we will have 260 something students testing at a time (by grade level) and it will be interesting to see how many "computer issues" come up all of a sudden now that they have to take a test. As for next week, there is nothing planned so we will see what comes up, my boss is also been gone since Thursday and won't be back till Monday so I haven't been able to ask him if there is any projects I can work on.

On Tuesday, we had our tech meeting and created a plan for wrapping up the school year. One of our main goals is to collect all staff laptops, perform a factory reset, and upgrade them to Windows 11. This will give us a clean baseline for next school year and hopefully help reduce issues—especially since some systems are still running Windows 10 21H1 from 2021. MOD 8: A Short Week with Big Decisions

This week was a little unusual due to Memorial Day on Monday, giving us a four-day work week. Even though I only worked 32 hours, I still got paid for the full 40. That brings my total hours for the quarter up to 320 . The week has felt a bit off—each day felt like it was one behind. Today is Friday, but it feels like Thursday, and not having class yesterday threw me off even more. Work-wise, it’s been fairly routine. I've mainly been resetting laptops to factory settings and reinstalling our standard software. State testing has officially wrapped up, so at least I won’t need to worry about supporting that anymore. With only about two weeks left on my current contract, I had been told I’d be returning in late August for the next school year. Final Blog Post

This is my final blog post for the BAS-IS program—I'm about to graduate!  This week, I worked 40 hours, bringing my quarter total to 400 hours. I spent most of the week wiping down and resetting as many senior laptops as I could to ensure we have some clean, updated systems ready for next year. While this isn’t our top priority, staff laptops weren’t yet available, and no broken student devices had been turned in yet. Starting next week, I’ll begin collecting all student and staff devices. Once they’re collected, we’ll need to find space to store them, most of them will likely sit untouched over the summer. All I can say is next year is going to be a bit of a mess, especially with so many moving parts and deferred maintenance.
