Module 1 Progress Report


This quarter started at a weird time and on a Thursday. I have been at my job since September of 2024, and this quarter started on a Thursday and wasn't a real "week". Starting on Monday, I have worked 32 hours and by the end of the week I will have a full 40 hours. This quarter I would have worked 56 hours. 

So far this week, I am caught up on all of my tickets and have only a few laptops left to repair and rest. I have more done than what was expected of my boss. 

Here are a few issues that arose. 

  1. Computer had malware 
    • Was given a laptop that would pop up with "Norton" and "MacAfee" say we need to download an update when we don't use either of those programs.
    • Standard procedure is to wipe the drive and preform a clean install of windows.
    • Reset device and scanned and tested for any potential left over malware. 

  2. Students Broke laptop screen
    • Laptop came in and the screen was cracked end to end.
    • My standard is to check to see if we have an active warranty on the device. (Thanks to me all techs check this now instead of assuming we don't and use the computer for parts)
    • Was under warranty so contacted Dell to get a return box and sent it off for repairs. 
    • created documentation on the service tag, the date it was sent, what school it belongs to, and what it was sent in for.

  3. Auditorium projector not connecting to screen beam or wall outlets. 
    • Preformed a multi week diagnostic on why our casting system wasn't working. I took time to go up to the booth and diagnosed each part of the system, went from wall panel to the input device, then to a monitor, works, plugged into the HDMI switch to our adaptor and amplifier to the out put port works. The Extron transmitter didn't have any status lights or connection lights. Looked up the manual and it appears its not communicating with the receiver which is mounted to the projector on the celling. Next step is to order a lift and plug into the projector to rule out its not the projector having issues and see of the school wants to spend money to get someone out to replace and re-program the boxes. 

Next week I will continue to work on tickets as they come in and on wednestday order the lift and go up.
