Journal Entry: Strengths and Goals in IT

Reflecting on my journey in IT, I recognize both my personal and professional strengths. Technically, I excel in troubleshooting and problem-solving, particularly with hardware and software issues, as demonstrated in my role as a Technology Technician. My knowledge of network systems, audiovisual equipment, and system maintenance allows me to handle a variety of challenges effectively. Non-technically, I am highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying solutions. My ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with colleagues ensures tasks are completed efficiently and with minimal disruption.

In terms of goals, my immediate objective is to finish my bachelor’s degree in Applied Science in Information Systems while continuing to work with the school district until my contract ends in June. After that, I plan to take the summer to secure an intermediate-level IT job, such as a network technician or technology specialist. This role will allow me to further develop my skills, gain valuable experience, and get a higher pay. My long-term goals include transitioning to a higher-paying position within a year of securing this new role, continuing to build expertise in network management, and earning certifications like Cisco’s CCNA or CompTIA Security+ within the next five years. Ultimately, my ten-year goal is to move into IT leadership, such as a senior systems administrator or IT manager.

My strengths align closely with these goals. My technical skills provide a solid foundation for advancing in network management, while my soft skills will be essential for navigating new roles and responsibilities. The combination of technical expertise and effective communication positions me well to meet both immediate and long-term career objectives. I am confident that with continued learning and dedication, I will achieve these milestones and contribute meaningfully to the IT field.
